Employment law issues in the U.S. often relate to, or are an offshoot of, our civil rights laws. Topics such as workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, worker safety, and union rights, are examples of this. Because of laws such as Title VII, the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and several others, it is well settled that workers in the U.S. have the right to fair pay and a safe workplace free from discrimination and harassment. However, like any area of law, there are nuances to employment law that must be understood before an individual can fully protect his or her rights in the workplace.
